“Recalling Imogen Stuart”

In response to the recent passing of renowned Irish-German sculptor Imogen Stuart, as reported on March 26th, one would be remiss not to acknowledge her significant artistic import to St Mel’s Cathedral in Longford, particularly for those fortunate enough to reside within its vicinity. The grand cathedral, once devastated by a fire incident that resulted in it being utterly destroyed in 2009, was beautifully restored, with Ms Stuart’s artistic brilliance at its heart. Her designs include the stunning silver tabernacle, the lectern, and the sanctuary cross found at the centre of the revitalised cathedral. Indeed, her art, alongside the work of no less than twelve other artists, graces this cathedral, which welcomes individuals from any belief system, or none at all, to come, witness, and relish the artworks. It is through such avenues that the enduring legacy of an artist like Ms. Stuart thrives, living on in the spirits and thoughts of those who appreciate their work.
Kind regards,
Sheelagh Mooney,
Ardagh,
Co Longford.
