“Start your engine humming”

Dear Editor,

It seems to be a constant contest between my vintage vehicle and I to determine who will triumph in terms of durability. To ignite the engine and to switch it off, my old fashioned key is my tool. However, these conventions seem to be too ordinary for the younger generation. It has become a trend, especially in contemporary literature, where a car driver starts the car with a “blast” and shuts it down with a “slay”. What a peculiar state of affairs!

Yours sincerely,
Margaret Butler,
Booterstown,
County Dublin.
