A power failure brought the Luas Red and Green routes to a standstill during peak commute times. Tram services on these lines, in Dublin’s southside, were back up and running after over an hour interruption. Following the disruption, many commuters were noticed bypassing limited access areas and trekking along the tram tracks near the Beechwood station in Ranelagh.
The fault was initially reported by Transdev, the Luas operators, at 5.47pm, halting services between Smithfield and The Point on the Red line. The situation has since been remedied; however, it may yet require some time for normal service to be fully reinstated.
The Green line, too, has been repaired, but has not yet resumed its standard operation schedule. Both lines suffered a joint power supply fault overhead, causing a rare simultaneous shutdown. This glitch led to a temporary halt of both the Red and Green lines, as acknowledged by a company representative.
