Dublin Airport has been hit with a penalty of €10m due to unclean lavatories and lengthy waits in security lines

Following a judgement by the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA), Dublin Airport is set to pay a fine of €6.7 million due to inadequate cleanliness in bathrooms and terminals as well as increased waiting time in security queues. Although the IAA granted the airport a €3.4 million bonus for good service quality, the airport faced a €10.1 million penalty for deficiencies in other areas, resulting in a total fine of €6.7 million.

Dublin airport faced penalties as it did not meet the set standards for terminal and washroom cleanliness, security queue information and ground transport during the first five months of 2023. However, the IAA acknowledged the considerable improvement in the security queue conditions during the latter part of the same year.

Awards were granted to the airport for surpassing targets on overall customer satisfaction, convenient navigation and movement for passengers, availability of luggage carts and Wi-Fi service.

Additionally, the IAA announced that airlines will be subjected to a maximum passenger charge of €8.46 this year. The IAA, as a state agency, is responsible for regulating the charges and overseeing the service quality at Dublin Airport.
